Education

As we all know, most public schools are staging areas for drugs and other things that young girls with addictive behaviors are drawn to. Our public schools are no different than yours. We know that education is an important issue for all parents. At The Journey Home, education is second to addiction treatment. Without recovery from addiction, school will be lost in the disease.

We have several options that we can use to individualize our residents educational needs. She can be home schooled here, attend classes to achieve her general equivalency degree, or attend a local private school if appropriate. All educational needs will be decided with her counselor, as well as the treatment team.

Family Therapy

We believe our job is to help put families back together, not keep them apart. This being a family disease, it must be addressed with the whole family to assure total recovery and support in the family system. We offer an extensive family program. Family therapy, as well as education on addiction is a necessary part of the resident's recovery process. Family work may be done by phone, in a family session, or in family workshops. This work is designed to facilitate the family recovery process.

Families are encouraged to be participants in their own recovery from the devastation that addiction has caused them and other family members.

In our family workshops, families are involved in a structured program which includes, educational presentations concerning the disease of addiction, support and understanding gained in small group discussion, individual sessions, and the co-dependent problems in dysfunctional families. Each family’s individual needs are addressed and realistic goals are set for the future.

Our Family Program was developed to:

  1. Allow the family to escape from being held hostage by the addict or alcoholic
  2. Encourage family members to learn more about the disease of addiction
  3. Teach family members to practice consistency and to avoid making threats and promises
  4. Help family members to support the recovery process in ways that will encourage the successful recovery process
  5. Encourage family members to attend Al-Anon
  6. Encourage family members to address the enmeshed family dynamics
  7. Resolve family conflict
  8. Teach families how to give positive support
  9. Create awareness of enabling behaviors
